Required License: Eligible to obtain National Certification
Must-Have: General, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and
Coagulation skills required Blood Bank experience preferred but not
required Description: The Medical Technologist is capable of
performing all tests in the clinical laboratory. He or she is
familiar with existing techniques and computerized instrumentation.
This role requires working with minimum supervision and using
independent judgment. A fundamental knowledge of all departments is
necessary, with the ability to rotate as needed. Knowledge of
quality control theory and the ability to accurately use quality
control programs is essential. The Medical Technologist must
systematically troubleshoot procedures or instruments. Operating
computerized instrumentation and a sophisticated robotic automation
line is part of the job. Responsibilities include accurately
performing laboratory procedures from specimen procurement to
result reporting. Maintaining high standards of accuracy and
quality control is crucial. Care and routine maintenance of
laboratory instrumentation are required. The Medical Technologist
will also assist technicians and lab aides if problems occur.
Drawing blood specimens from patients as per request orders is part
of the role. Record phlebotomy in a logbook with initials, dates,
and times on all tubes. Perform other related job duties as
assigned.
