Job Summary

Provide education to all County employees and retirees on benefit plan or program eligibility and design to include but not limited to medical, dental, vision, AD & D, life insurance, disability, flexible spending, and COBRA. Effectively communicate with all County insurance carriers and address claims and coverage issues in a timely manner. Serve as a facilitator of resolutions for insurance claim issues. Develop communications and brochures to assist in the attraction of new talent to the County on benefit provisions and perks.

Work collaboratively with the unit supervisor to gather data and make recommendations on the best benefit packages based on trends that meet the needs of the County's workforce.

Minimum Qualifications

Applications will be rejected if the following information is not provided at the time of application:

  • Thoroughly documented work history
  • The application is incomplete in ANY capacity

1. a. Possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a preferred major in Business Administration, Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, or other related field of study; AND

b. Have had at least five (5) years of full-time work experience specializing in employee benefits administration. OR

2. a. Possess an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with a preferred major in Business Administration, Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, or other related field of study; AND

b. Have had at least six (6) years of full-time work experience specializing in employee benefits administration.

NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services ( (see application details) ). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.

3. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.

4. Successfully complete the six (6) month probationary period.

Overview of Employee Benefits:
  • Comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability insurance, life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance for all eligible employees, with minimal employee cost.
  • Health and dependent care reimbursement accounts where employees can place pre-tax dollars into an account to be used for health careor dependent care related expenses.
  • There is also a comprehensive retirement package in which all Eligible employees are enrolled in a defined contribution plan (401a) with a County match; also the ability to participate in a deferred compensation plan (457).
  • Ample time-off for all employees, including 11 to 13 paid holidays per year, five personal leave days, one floating holiday, 10 vacation days within the first year (amount of vacation days increase over tenure).
  • Annual Leave Buy Back is offered once a year to all eligible employees with 60 (or more) annual leave hours in the bank.   • Parental Leave is available for all full-time employees who have completed six (6) months of County service. Employees will receive 6 weeks of paid leave at 100% of their current salary. Parental Leave can be utilized for both the birth and adoption of a child.
