Reference Forms completed within the last two years Description:
This position prepares the surgical suite for procedures. It
involves assisting in gathering equipment, instruments, and
supplies necessary for surgery. The candidate ensures all supplies
and equipment are available and in working condition. Assistance is
provided to the surgeon in the care of the patient during the
operation. Responsibilities include providing exposure, aiding in
hemostasis, closure, and other technical functions. Duties also
involve proper draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging, suturing,
tissue handling, and cautery techniques. The assistant applies
appropriate dressing material specific to each procedure.
Collaboration with the operating room team is essential for patient
care. Knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, physiology, and
operative techniques related to specific procedures is necessary.
The candidate must ensure all necessary supplies, equipment, or
instruments are available and confirmed with the nurse and surgical
technologist. The assistant assists the physician with proper
positioning, draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging, tissue
handling, cautery techniques, stapling devices, and suturing. Team
members are assisted in transportation, positioning, and total care
